Heads up! Gary V on Novuhair: putting energy into prevention

Let me share a secret! One of Val's greatest fears is to go "bald" or "panot." Though initially, I found this a bit odd. I realized that when we grow older, hair loss is a major concern whether some admit it or not. Even my bald friends say they opted to get their head shaved because they are already showing signs of thinning.

However, whether we decide to go bald or not, it is such a relief that there is a product that can help. Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano, the image of youthful vibrance says that part of what makes him stay young looking is his head of hair. What many people don’t know is that, like all other men his age, Gary once worried about hair thinning and hair loss. That’s why, at the first signs of the problem, Gary sought to find ways to prevent it from becoming worse.

“I first noticed the hair loss in the shower, after I toweled my hair dry. Then one day, my team of hairstylists noticed that my hair was thinning, too. That’s when they told me to look for the product that Fanny Serrano was using, a product called NOVUHAIR,” remarked Gary on his journey to regaining control over his hair loss.

NOVUHAIR is a topical scalp lotion that is a unique combination of 14 different natural ingredients and essential oils for a healthier hair and scalp. One of the factors of hair loss, according to studies, is stress, something that Gary experiences on almost a daily basis. Other factors include hereditary disorders, a persistent illness, major surgery, hormonal problems, childbirth & delivery, medications, infections, pollutants, and even excessive exposure to sunlight. And contrary to popular belief, hair loss is as much a problem for women as it is for men. In many cases, hair loss may be prevented or alleviated through early detection. In the case of Gary, his decision to try NOVUHAIR to prevent his
symptoms from worsening made a big difference, and within a few months, he saw remarkable results.

Gary shares his experience with NOVUHAIR as he tells the story of their family hair history: “Hair loss runs in our family, too, even if it sometimes skips a generation. My brother and grandfather both lost their hair, but my dad still has a full head of hair at 87. I just wanted to make sure I take control of my symptoms. Now, I use NOVUHAIR everyday, and I’ve noticed that I don’t shed as much hair as I did before, especially after toweling my hair dry. And my hairstylists noticed it, too. I love using NOVUHAIR because it has this minty, cool effect that makes me feel like my hair is always clean and fresh.”

“In less than a month and half, I already saw results even if I was told to wait three to four months before I can see a difference. The effects on me were much faster. There were fewer strands on my white towel, which basically was within the normal boundaries of hair loss for an average person. Before using NOVUHAIR, I used to shed more.” This is due to the fact that NOVUHAIR penetrates deep to help rejuvenate, nourish, & maintain moisture in the scalp and hair. By improving the blood circulation in the scalp, NOVUHAIR helps stimulate hair growth and aid in preventing further, excessive hair fall, while also improving the overall appearance of the hair.

“I never endorse a product that I did not experience first. I have to make sure it is really effective. With Novuhair, I can say that it has really contributed to my peace of mind and overall well-being. And, heads up, as Novuhair is now part of my daily routine, which includes prayer, diet, and medication. God has truly lived up to his promise in my life, and as he says in Psalm 92:14 ‘I will keep you fruitful even in old age. Fresh and green.’ I am very happy now that Novuhair is a part of that.”

Pfizer Strengthens Global Campaign on Bone Health, Calls on Filipinos to ‘Love Your Bones’

We all know that we need to have a healthier lifestyle. This includes having healthier food choices, better living conditions and environment as well as having adequate exercise. However, whether we admit it our not, most of us do not put this on top of my priority list.

Food and bone health, although considered vital life components, are still largely ignored, be it due to poor lifestyle or lack of awareness. To help address this growing health problem, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare (PCH) partnered with the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) to spearhead the local celebration of World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) last October 20.

Aptly themed “Serve up Bone Strength,” WOD 2015 focuses on the importance of adopting a bone-healthy diet throughout a person’s lifetime to optimize bone strength. The campaign highlights the point that poor nutrition is one of the critical risk factors for developing bone-related diseases.

“It conveys the message that the first step in osteoporosis prevention begins in youth, when nutrition can help maximize our bone-building potential, and continues throughout life as we strive to maintain strong bones at older age,” explained IOF, the global organizer of WOD.

A key date in the bone, muscle, and joint community agenda, WOD is an occasion when people around the globe unite to put the spotlight on the immense burden caused by osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal diseases, and the actions that can be taken to prevent and treat them. It aims to put bone, muscle, and joint health on the global health agenda.

“We at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare support the IOF in its advocacy to inform the people about osteoporosis and the fact that it can be prevented,” says Dr. Egbert Dorado, senior medical manager at PCH. “We echo IOF’s key message: Adequate intake of the right nutrients contributes to bone health at all ages, and is a first step in osteoporosis prevention. For those who already have osteoporosis, a bone-healthy nutrition should be part of their treatment and rehabilitation program.”

Three of the major nutrients that help optimize bone health are: calcium, vitamin D, and protein, with recommended daily allowances varying throughout life.

“Regulating calcium levels in the body promotes better bone mass density (BMD), alongside improving muscle performance and balance. Taking a calcium supplement with adequate levels of Vitamin D3 also helps maximize calcium absorption,” adds Dr. Egbert. While proper nutrition works, it is also important to have a holistic approach to osteoporosis prevention and management.
“It is indeed crucial to build strong bones early in life by following a healthy diet as it is the key ingredient in helping a person achieve peak bone mass, and maintaining it throughout life. But it is equally important to avoid other modifiable risk factors including sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and alcohol use,” explains Dr. Egbert.

Osteoporosis is an incurable disease, but controlling its risk factors and complying with treatment regimens where prescribed can ensure a mobile, independent, and fracture-free life.

For more information on osteoporosis and World Osteoporosis Day 2015, visitwww.worldosteoporosisday.org, follow IOF on Instagram (@worldosteoporosisday) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/worldosteoporosisday), or subscribe to its YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/iofbonehealth).

//Social Constructs : All About Passion For Music

They say that a lot of people express themselves through music which I totally agree with. Whether we are happy, sad or worried, there would always be a corresponding "theme song of our life" for that moment. We opt to either sing along or just plainly listen and let us drift our thoughts with it.

However, Paincake Patrol, a one-man electronic music project by musician, Eeman Bulotano would like to take this to a different level. Launching //Social Constructs on December 5, 2015 at Today x Future in Cubao, Quezon City, this project aims to make people listen to music without having to ignore the person standing next to them. The project will provide music that "makes you think, but yet somehow not distract you at all."

This experimental solo project is focused on creating alternative electronic and ambient music, reflecting the artist’s experiences and views on existence in general.

The idea behind //Social Constructs and Paincake Patrol itself is inspired and widely influenced by the very existence of ambient music as pioneered by Brian Leno during the 1980’s. Usually electronic and instrumental in nature, ambient music aims to create a perfect balance between disappearance and presence.

Though it has existed for a long time now, ambient music remains relatively unknown to the mainstream crowd as it is seen as "too smart" or "overly deep.” Personally, I was just using this for my animation projects and videos since the sound are pretty unique and perfect as a background music.

However, Eeman and many other ambient music artists see this type of music as simpler and more relatable compared to any other genre because it provides the chance to be freely interpreted by its listeners. Thus, being exposed to this new genre would be very refreshing given that it is powered by the experiences and emotions not just by the one who created the music but also by those whom the music is created for.

Songs from this genre evolve from the mere self-expression of one artist into many different stories weaved by those present in the audience. They are taken and understood in more ways than one – similar to how individuals give meaning to various things and, ultimately, to life.

Music relives one’s memories, and the entire Paincake Patrol project intends to elicit nostalgia while stimulating thought-provoking conversations. With this particular EP, the artist focused on his view of the general meaning of existence and how empty it may seem when viewed only in an objective and logical way.

Each composition is appropriately titled based heavily on how the artist views reality. Combining master beats with ethereal notes, //Social Constructs’ first three tracks aim to reflect the existential angst and loneliness one might experience when he or she has failed to see reason behind life.

So, are you up for a good genuine passion for music? Join them this December 5, 2015 and check out Paincake Patrol on Facebook, Sound Cloud, Twitter, Instagram and his blog or catch more of Eeman’s keyboards and synths as he plays with Audio Drive Thru.

Herbalife Health Poll: 9 in 10 Filipinos ”highly concerned” about an Unhealthy Lifestyle

When we moved to Bacolod, it was our first step towards a healthier lifestyle. We plan to enjoy the cleaner air, away from the horrible pollution in Metro Manila. Val had been so worried about me getting very frequent asthma attacks and thus, for the sudden decision to relocate.

According to the health poll conducted last September 2015 by the global nutrition company, Herbalife, 9 out 10 Filipinos are "highly concerned" about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause us and simple changes to the things we got so used to can make a difference. Personally, I belive that lifestyle would include the food we eat, activities we do and the places we stay.

A good number of respondents expressed the willingness to make a change however, I believe that most of the respondents including me is guilty of not having started it yet. Yes, we are willing but has a long list of excuses.

There are several factors that hinder us from starting such the lack of time (75%) , lack of time to make proper nutrition choice (64%) and high cost of healthy food (62%). This is something that Herbalife understands and it gives them an idea where they are needed according to Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines, General Manager.

“The findings from the Herbalife survey clearly show that the majority of people in Asia Pacific that we questioned believe in the value of good nutrition and exercise as contributing to their overall well-being. We aim to play a greater role in providing practical tips and information to people to help them understand that the journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle is not difficult to achieve. With as little as 10 minutes a day, consumers can take positive steps to improve their nutrition and be more active, which will improve their overall well-being,” said William M. Rahn, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Asia Pacific.

Now on its fourth year, the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour aims to deepen people’s practical understanding of the various aspects of living a healthy active lifestyle. This year’s Wellness Tour will feature five members of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) visiting 14 markets and 21 cities across the Asia-Pacific in the month of October. They will share their expert views on how people can make use of the little time they have to make simple lifestyle changes that will enhance their well-being.

The Herbalife NAB experts participating in this year’s Wellness Tour include global renowned doctors. Dr. David Heber, a leading expert in the field of nutrition and named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and considered one of “The Best Doctors in America will be coming to Manila.

Dr. Heber, who is the founding Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles, will be conducting a symposium for free to Filipino medical practitioners on October 23, 9am, at the Manila Hotel. The symposium will gather a group of 100 doctors, nurses, physical therapists and medical practitioners. The title of the symposium is “Obesity: More Than Just Being Overweight and Nutrition Forecast for 2020. The following day, Oct. 24, Dr. Heber will be holding seminars for thousands of Herbalife Independent Members in the same hotel.

So, is this another reminder that we start and truly commit to a healthier lifestyle? Share your thought and pledges.

Dreaming of being a Work-at-Home Professional? It's possible and easy.

It's almost 3 weeks since my last post and this is mainly because I have been busy working. After the long struggle of getting DSL installed in our home (which is an entirely different story), I am ready to start working from home again.

I did not have any existing clients since I ended all my contracts and engagements before we left Manila. So, the day after we had internet installed, I started looking for an online job again. Good news is that my search was successful and that's the reason for my crazy schedule for the past few weeks.

Now, let me share with you some tips and websites to check if you're planning to be a work-at-home professional too.

1. LinkedIn

Though LinkedIn may not be that popular as facebook, it is very important that you create a profile. Most companies nowadays research on your professional background through LinkedIn. There you can also find job opportunities and groups that can aide in your career shift.

2. Upwork

Upwork, formerly odesk is one of the largest hiring portals to find the best professionals. Both local and international clients post job openings in Upwork. They can either be on an hourly or fixed rate. You can go through the job posts and if you find one that interests you,  all you have to do is send out a proposal with a bid.

3. Raket.ph

I have been a member of the Raket.ph for a few months and had actually received quite a number of job invites. All you need to do is create a Raket.ph account and make sure to complete your profile. Prospective clients go through and review the profiles of the "raketeers" and if they feel you are a perfect fit, they would contact you via Raket.ph messaging/ email. Terms of employment can be discussed outside Raket.ph

4. 199jobs

This all about identifying what type of service can you offer worth Php 199. By creating a profile in 199jobs, you would be selling your services to prospective clients and constant marketing would also be needed. The good thing about 199jobs is that payment is guaranteed because all clients should first pay for their purchased service. One is not allowed to transact outside 199jobs. The only downside is that they have a minimum amount for payouts (more or less 3 jobs completed.) Honestly, I only had 1 job order and thus, never really got paid for it.

5. Onlinejobs.ph

I discovered onlinejobs.ph in facebook because I was following their page. Generally, onlinejob.ph is like a "jobstreet" for online work and the process is very easy. Manila Pavilion's Mid Autumn Mooncake Festival

After the dreaded ghost month, my family and I look forward to another Chinese celebration. The Mooncake Festival occurs on the 15th day of the eight month of the Chinese lunar calendar when the moon is at its brightest. It is a perfect occasion for family reunions all over the world, which like the ubiquitous moon cakes that abound during the seasons, symbolizes family solidity and union. It is the time of year when children are happiest and traditional lit-lanterns shaped in various forms are visibly displayed.

This year, we are looking forward to celebrate the mid-autumn moon season as Manila Pavilion's Patisserie lays out a delectable spread of mooncakes from September 14 to October 18, 2015 at the Patisserie.

We are inviting you to welcome the moon and purchase a hearty mooncake perfect for the your own mooncake celebration on September 27. Revel in the delightful aroma of palatable moon cake variants available. You can chose from lotus with macadamia, egg custard, mixed nuts, lotus with 1 or 2 eggs, lotus plain, mongo with 1 or 2 eggs and mongo plain for large mooncakes. For mini mooncakes, you have the option to choose between chocolate, ube, egg custard, mixed nuts, lotus plain and mongo plain.

Prices start at Php 1,350 per box of four and it also comes in gift boxes perfect for giveaways starting at Php 450 per box of four.

Manila Pavilion is also inviting you celebrate the Mooncake Festival in style. They offer Mid-Autumn room packages starting at Php 3,500 nett for an overnight stay with buffet breakfast for two (2), one (1) limited Mommily Holiday Privilege Card, a box of mini mooncakes, 20 percent discount voucher from all F&B outlets and complimentary use of swimming pool and Wi-Fi.
