Top 5 Things To Do During Rainy Days

Val and I love the rain. It actually means more time to spend together. If it is really not that important, we actually cancel our plans of going out and simply just stay at home. Personally, I consider the rain as a blessing from God especially after I saw how much it meant to the farmers during El NiƱo.

Thus, we came up with a list of top 5 things to do at home when it's raining.

1. Movie Marathon or Binge Watching - This may be the most popular thing to do when it's raining. Whether you decide to watch a movie or catch up with your missed TV series, just make sure to have popcorn ready.

2. Get More Sleep - Don't miss the chance to get your much deserved rest. This bed weather is a perfect timing for you get more sleep. Make sure to have at least 8 hours. :)

3. Give Yourself a DIY Pampering Session - Whether it's hot oil, deep conditioning, own mani-pedicure session, or simply cutting your nails, take this opportunity to take care of yourself. A DIY pampering session is the one of the greatest ways to express self-love.

4. Hobby Time - With our fast-paced lifestyle, we may often forget our little passions such as writing, drawing, crafting or singing. Do what you love most, find the time to pursue your passion.

5. Keep Yourself Warm - It may be raining outside but it's not enough reason to get cold. Make sure to keep yourself warm by enjoying MAS Soup Sarap

It's so easy to prepare. You just have to add hot water and you'll be able to enjoy a creamy and delicious soup in less than one minute. It is available in 3 flavors: Chicken and Corn, Seafood and Mushroom. MAS Soup Sarap is available in all leading supermarkets and 7/11 stores nationwide.

How about you? Do you have other ideas on what to do during a rainy day? Feel free to share your thoughts below.

MERZCI Opens Their Second Store in Talisay

MERZCI, our favorite Bacolod Pasalubong Center opened their second branch in Talisay City, Negros Occidental last November 24, 2017. It one of the few 4-in-1 concept stores that feature a Fastfood, Bakeshop, Pasalubong Center and Bake-off. Since it's a bake-off, products are prepared and baked onsite where customers get to enjoy the products fresh and hot.

The grand opening of the Talisay 2 branch was attended by their CEO, Mr. Jonathan Lo, Talisay City Government Officials, Media Partners, and other guests.

There was a Siopao Eating Contest which was fun and exciting. I believe Val would win the contest if he joined. Thus, we are actually planning to grab some MERZCI siopao and see how much we can consume in 4 minutes. (Haha! Want to join us?)

Customers were also treated to a buy one take one promo. It was actually the best time to hoard because the expiration dates are still far and the promo bundles are definitely worth your money. (So, watch out for MERZCI's upcoming promotions. Make sure you follow them on Facebook for updates.)

Thus, it such joy for the Talisayons to have another MERZCI store where they can enjoy the best pasalubong treats and good food. Their fastfood has a great food selection that is delicious and affordable The air-conditioned area provides a comfortable and spacious place for customers to enjoy every meal time at MERZCI's.

What is the Best Pasalubong from Bacolod? No, It's not Piaya.

Bacolod has always been my favorite summer destination. We loved the city so much that we decided to move here for good.

The first time I was able to visit this beautiful city was around 20 years ago and I have very significant memories that made me come back here often. One is the old "pala-pala" or market along San Juan St. corner North Capitol Road. It is like "Dampa" in Metro Manila and they serve the best garlic and butter shrimps I have ever tasted. Second is the flat piaya that has been a popular sweet treat from the city of smiles.

For years, I have always thought that Piaya which was either in original flavor or ube is the "best" pasalubong that you can bring from Bacolod. However, after moving here in 2015, I was surprised to discover that there is another delicacy which is really good and is actually the BEST PASALUBONG THAT YOU SHOULD BRING FROM BACOLOD CITY.

It is called NAPOLEONESIt is a layered puff pastry filled with custard cream and glazed with white sugar on top. There are several pasalubong centers making this thus, we decided to conduct the ultimate test to find out which one is the best. After comparing the 5 different napoleones we tasted, we can say that MERZCI makes the Best Napoleones here in the city of smiles.

Box of 16 - Php 135

Thus, if you are visiting Bacolod especially this Masskara Festival, you might want to bring this piece of Bacolod with you as pasalubong to your family and friends. MERZCI has a total of 50 branches in Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Panay. They also have branches at the Bacolod - Silay Airport and Bredco Port in case you don't have the time to buy.

Aside from Napoleones, we also recommend these MERZCI pasalubong treats. I can guarantee #TananManamit. (Everything is delicious.)

About Merzci

It is a family business that started in 1995 and a market brand of CM & Sons Food Products, Inc. It began as a small bakery supplying bread to single stores in Libertad Market in Bacolod City and soon evolved to produce pasalubong products, water, and fast food serving delicious and affordable food.

You may visit their website for more details.

---------------------------------------

Now, here is the best part! Since I want you to try these delicious treats from Bacolod City, we're running a giveaway where you can get the chance to win goodies from MERCZI. The mechanics are very simple and it's open to anyone who has a Philippine address.

Will announce the winner on October 21st in time for the celebration of the Masskara Festival here. Goodluck!

Congratulations, Bernard! Kindly message us on Facebook with your name, shipping address and contact number.

What Pasalubong to Bring from Davao City?

Whenever we travel for business or leisure, it is natural for us to buy pasalubong for families and friends. Key chains, shirts and small trinkets are very common. However, if you are visiting Davao City then there is only one pasalubong that will complete your Davao experience.

Apo ni Lola Durian Delicacies has grown strong over the years to become the No. 1 pasalubong must-have. It's main branch is located at 28 San Miguel Village, Matina, Davao City. They are famous for their delicious durian candies available in different flavors.

Their best seller is actually the candy bar available in different variants too. I super love the Creamy Durian Bar and the Mangosteen Yema Bar. These are highly recommended because they are so yummy that you would love to have a big chunk of it.

You have to make sure that you get some durian and mangosteen tarts too. They are actually my favorites. The crust are always freshly baked and the filling is just perfect.

Recently, they have expanded their array of products. Apo ni Lola Durian Delicacies also offers Durian Pie (which I am going to review in a different post), Durian Jam and Durian Hopia.

On a tight budget? You don't have to worry because their products are very affordable.

For orders, inquiries and deliveries, you may contact them at 09204103333 or 082-2895099. They also have a branch in Abreeza Mall.

And now, I am running a quick giveaway so, that one of my readers will have the chance to taste these yummy treats from Apo ni Lola Durian Delicacies. Just follow the mechanics found in the rafflecopter widget. Don't forget to tag My Metro Lifestyle and Apo ni Lola Durian Delicacies in your shared posts and follow all the steps in rafflecopter so, that your entries will be valid.

Cebu Getaway: Enjoy an Exclusive Tour in a Resort Paradise + Buffet Lunch for less Php 750

Summer may be over but that does not stop us from enjoying the sun, sea and the sand. Just a few kilometers away from the Cebu Mactan International Airport presents a paradise with such a beautiful view.

Costabella Tropical Beach Resort provides guests with an inviting yet cozy ambiance. It has a direct access to Mactan's beautiful coastline enabling everyone to enjoy the clear waters and the fine white sand it offers. One thing that we really loved about Costabella Beach Resort is that the surroundings are well maintained and it's clean. We also liked that their lifeguards and staff are very attentive.

Though the place is 4-star resort, it is very affordable. One can enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch with a lovely rondalla music for only Php 1,100 per person. This already includes resort entrance and the use of beach facilities and swimming pools.

Not to mention they have a Buy 2+1 free promo (ending on 06.30.17) which makes it less than Php 750 per person. Kids below 4 years old also get to eat for free.

Good deal, right? And, what is a better way to spend a Sunday than be with family?

Val and I definitely enjoyed our weekend getaway in Cebu. So, if you are planning to take a quick break and chill out, then you might want to consider Costabella Tropical Beach Resort. (BTW, this is not a sponsored post.)

Also, if you are feeling a bit adventurous, there are also parasailing and banana boat activities available which I would really love to try. (Probably, next time!)

For bookings and reservations, you may contact Costabella Tropical Beach Resort at  (032) 231-4244. They are located at Buyong, Mactan Island, Cebu 6015, Philippines. You may also follow them on Facebook for updates.

BACOLOD BLOG SERIES: Where can you find real corn nachos in Bacolod?

Bacolod has been home to distinct and really good food. From chicken inasal, fresh seafood, baby back ribs to sweet treats, there is no doubt that Bacolod is a foodie's haven.

Beyond our local discoveries, there is one thing that we were missing from our favorites in Manila. We cannot find REAL CORN NACHOS in Bacolod. Every time we order nachos from restaurants, we get disappointed to be served with something like "fried wonton wrappers" (No offense to those who prefers this but we really prefer the Mexican type corn nachos.)

Thank God that Nacho King has opened their first branch here in Bacolod. Nacho King is located near SM Cinema just behind the Brownies Unlimited kiosk.

For as low as Php 135, one can enjoy their Biggie Beefy with Salsa (which is my favorite). These are real corn nachos with lean ground meat, salsa and a generous amount of cheese sauce.

If you want it with jalapeno and mushrooms, one can also opt for their Biggie and Jumbo Loaded Nachos. Both sizes are good for sharing. You can also build your own nachos starting at Php 45 for medium size nachos with cheese and Php 25 per additional topping. Nacho King is indeed the perfect movie time snack

For your reference, here is Nacho King's pricelist.

And because their nachos are crunchy and really delicious, we got excited when we found out that we can also purchase nachos separately. They offer big packs of plain nacho chips for Php 110 and Php 90 for their flavored nacho chips. Flavors include cheese, chili cheese, sour cream, and barbecue. I believe this is a better option for pasalubongs plus you can make our own DIY nachos with our own preferred toppings at home.

So, for everyone who's looking for real corn nachos like us, the search is over since Nacho King SM Bacolod is already in the city of smiles. As you can see, Val clearly enjoys his favorite snack.

Go ahead and visit them near SM Cinema and follow them on facebook, https://www.facebook.com/NachoKingBacolod/ for more updates and upcoming promotions.

BACOLOD BLOG SERIES: Where do Locals Eat in Bacolod?

I started the Bacolod Blog Series in 2015 featuring home-grown restaurants and must-visit places as we wish to share with you our new discoveries here in Bacolod. After 1.5 years, Val and I decided to bring it back as we share to you how much we love Bacolod. We will be featuring the delicious and affordable food discoveries and options and you can find out where do locals eat in Bacolod.

First off, Back Ribs.

When you visit Bacolod City, you may notice several establishments offering Bacolod's Back Ribs. Though may look almost the same, there is one that truly stands out - Lord Byron's Back Ribs.

They offer back ribs in generous sizes at a very affordable price. It comes with garlic rice and atchara.

Back Ribs - Php 159

The sauce is really good and the meat is really tender. No doubt why Papa likes it so much.

Local's secret tip: You can ask for more sauce and more atchara for FREE. :)

Aside from Backribs, they also offer freshly prepared potato wedges which are a perfect match to your back ribs.

Potato Wedges - Php 59
Aside from our 2 favorites, they also serve Cansi Soup (which is popular here in Bacolod), Sizzling Bangus (perfect for the upcoming Lenten season) and Pork Sisig which is also one of their specialties.

Cansi Soup - Php 159

For your reference, here is a copy of Lord Byron's Back Ribs Menu:

Lord Byron's Menu
How was our experience?

We visited their newest branch near Riverside College. Val and I were with our friends Jelica and Kat.
Visiting with friends Jelica (in blue) and Kat
The staff is very nice and helpful. Though they get a lot of customers during rush hour, the tables have ample spaces in between so it wouldn't be so crowded. Since it was Jelica's first time to visit, we decided to try different dishes.

We had:
3 orders of Back Ribs
1 order of Sizzling Bangus
1 order of Kansi Soup
1 order of Potato Wedges
Drinks (Soft drinks + Iced Tea)
Extra Rice

And our biggest surprise - the bill was less than Php 1,000 That's good for 4 persons.

So, are we visiting again? Yes
Are you recommending Lord Bryon's Back Ribs to friends? Yes

Just another Local's secret tip: Don't be mistaken with the signs, logos and the name. Lord Byron's has only 3 branches: two in Bacolod and one in Dumaguete.

You may also follow them on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lbsbackribstheoriginal/ for updates, pop-ups and promotions.

Remember: you've never been to Bacolod if you never tried their back ribs. :)
